About Cyrus

Art has been one of Cyrus’s main interests since childhood but being born and raised in 1960’s Iraq, he never had the opportunity to attend any art classes and pursue his passions. Instead he studied Accounting and worked as an accountant for many years. Nonetheless, he sought art in his life. Cyrus loved researching the history of art; “I still remember spending hours studying prodigious artists such as Dali, Raphael, and Da Vinci. I was inspired to pursue the interests which I had abandoned. I began carrying my sketchbook with me wherever I went; I sketched everything around me with plans of painting them once I was back home. I used ink, watercolor, and charcoal in my artwork. The unfortunate conflicts in Iraq lead me to flee the country and leave behind all my artwork”. Although devastating, this journey turned Cyrus onto digital art, as he could easily transport digital art with him wherever he went. As Cyrus is now living in a more stable society, he rediscovered his love for all kinds of different media.

“My roots remain to be a muse for my artwork. The Middle East and Mediterranean aria is rich with history, and the modern Western society unfortunately is unaware of much of this history. Through my artwork, I hope to inspire people to seek more of the beauty that is Middle Eastern and Mediterranean history, society, and tradition”.

“I research my memory for unforgettable moments, where places and people's impressions left a remarkable trace in my mind, and all I do is a mix and match with moments and experiences from the present; but in the process of creating  the actual painting, it's a hit and miss. Sometimes after I decide that the painting is all done, I  realize that what I just finished is nothing more than a glimpse of either the past failing to match with the present or the other way around, I see my art as a product of my sub-conscious trying to stimulate my rumbling feelings produced by chaos that  surrounded me through my life experience, and because in reality noting made sense, so the painting is not going to make sense too!"

As a self-taught artist, Cyrus is all about experimenting and conquering new techniques. Cyrus creates videos about art theory in his mother tongue (Arabic), “there’s limitless number of resources when it comes to finding information about art in English, but Arabic is very poor when it comes to art”. It’s a very important thing to do. Enlightenment of new generations in that part of the world will only work though spreading knowledge, and art and everything that is beautiful in life”.
